Interior design blogger Arianna Vargas of AriannaBelle.com doesn’t underestimate the power of de-cluttering and organizing, especially when it comes to small spaces. Her blog is designed to share her passion for home décor and design, as well as utilizing the tool of organization to enhance the rooms in your home. From clearing off your bathroom counter to discarding those old magazines that you are never going to get around to reading, Vargas has two simple solutions to help you take control of your small space.

Tip 1: Go Vertical

Setting our everyday items like books, lipsticks and toiletries on the counter can quickly transform from convenience to clutter. However, elevating these necessities can keep them handy without consuming your space.

“Take advantage of vertical space by using shelves, tall bookcases, bulletin boards, hooks, anything that can be mounted on a wall,” says Vargas.

On her blog, Vargas suggests investing in a shelving unit specifically for the bathroom. By taking advantage of whatever wall space you have, items such as toilet paper, towels and hair products can be easily accessible without invading your limited space. And don’t be afraid to make it pretty by using decorative vases, jars, and boxes to store small objects like soap or jewelry.

Tip 2: Edit, Edit, Edit!

When living in a small space you don’t have the luxury of just throwing old magazines in a cabinet or stuffing six of the same pair of jeans in your closet, every inch counts. Unless you want to end up on the next episode of “Hoarders,” you have to part with the items you simply don’t need.

“Edit your belongings as much as possible,” says Vargas. “Don’t let clutter take up precious real estate in your home.  Keep only the things you actually use and love.”

Vargas shares her de-cluttering and organizing do’s and don’ts on her blog, recommending that readers keep in mind the space they have available when shopping for new items, while donating or selling items they don’t need.

And don’t think the shelving you just installed is an excuse for keeping around some things you don’t need; that, too, requires maintenance.
